The power of aesthetics is generally underestimated. «I don't want a nice looking design, nobody understands» is a common misunderstanding of design.
Let me make it very clear: aesthetic does not substitute usability. It just turns a thought-through interface people understand into an interface people love.
If aesthetics wouldn't matter, our cars, buildings, and devices would look much worse. Aesthetic designs make things more desirable and people are more forgiving while interacting with them. Therefore, aesthetics will increase the perceived usability.
