A decorative images can support the message of a text. But choosing the right type of image can be hard some times. Content creators are tempted to use an image that describes the topic the best, not the image that is visually pleasing or supports a more holistic image concept.
Blogs suffer from bad images the most. Without a clear image concept, an overview of blog articles show images of all types, which just looks thrown together. This doesn't gives the user a feeling of quality.
Take this action
Define an image concept, get the help of a Designer or Photographer if needed. Think about color, brightness, busyness, and perspective. If you don't have the budget, check out Unsplash or Pexels for images that match (or can be edited to) the defined style.
Try to avoid cheap graphics, screenshots or images with posing people.
